Based out of Echizen, Yu Kurosaki has focused his career on creating not just functional kitchen knives, but unforgettable pieces of art. He has been certified by the Japanese government as a "Dentokogeshi" or Master of Traditional Crafts - recognising his skills and expertise in traditional knife making. In the Senko Ei collection, "Senko" translates to "fireworks" or "flash", describing how the diamond-like hammering on the blade shimmers in the light. These knives also have a curved spine that is iconic to Yu Kurosaki's work.
Made with SG2 powdered steel, these knives have incredible edge retention and will stay sharp for a long time. SG2 is a premium stainless steel made from a process called Powder Metallurgy, where the steel is formed by heating compacted metal powder. In the case of SG2, this results in a fine-grained, high-alloy steel which contributes to its superb edge retention that is superior to other popular stainless steels (e.g. VG10, Ginsan, AUS8).
Each piece has been carefully polished to shine, combined with a richly hued Rosewood octagonal handle and contrasting Maple Pakka ferrule, these knives are truly functional yet showstopping pieces.
