“Minamo” (水面) means “water surface”, a fitting name for the delicate tsuchime (hammered) finish that shimmers like ripples on a still pond. Hand crafted by renowned blacksmith Yoshimi Kato, the Minamo series embodies elegance and refinement.
Yoshimi Kato is a third-generation blacksmith who transitioned from managing construction projects to carrying on a family’s knife-making legacy. Under the mentorship of his father-in-law, Hiroshi Kato, he mastered the craft in just five years - far quicker than most - and now leads Kato Uchihamono with meticulous attention to detail.
The performance of the Minamo is almost laser like. With incredible thinness behind the edge, this series cuts exceptionally without feeling too fragile or light. The unique hammering pattern isn't just for show either, it provides excellent food release on top of looking spectacular. Overall, this series has got everything - it's not too heavy nor too light, its cutting peformance is excellent and its food release is great. This is a blade that anyone can appreciate.
