The C5 is Timemore's new hand grinder launched in 2025. Poised at replacing the C3. (The number "4" is skipped for multiple reasons.)

C5 vs C3:

Compared to the C3's 38mm hexagonal burrset, the C5 features a larger 42mm burrset with a heptagonal design.

In our testing, the C5 delivers significantly more clarity and flavour seperation compared to the C3 while retaining the rounded sweet flavour profile that the Timemore C3 is known for. Overall, the C5's burrset allows you to more easily appreciate the flavours and nuances in your coffee, without excessive bitterness, acidity or astringency.

Apart from the flavours, the C5 also features an adjustment mechanism with greater range and accuracy. The C5 has 4 times more adjustment settings compared to the C3. Additionally, by re-engineering the inner structure and slightly widening the body, Timemore has created more room for a larger burr set and larger grinding capacity all while keeping the C5 compact and travel-friendly.

For us, the C5 is an extremely well designed grinder that produces a cup that is extremely easy to drink with good sweetness, moderate clarity, moderate to low acidity and low bitterness. It makes for a great starting point into specialty coffee.

Understanding the different variations:

- When a grinder has PRO in its name, it has a folding handle. Non-PRO versions have a fixed handle.

- When a grinder has ESP in its name, it is suitable for Espresso due to its finer adjustment mechanism. Non-ESP versions may not have enough grind adjustment settings in espresso range.

C5 vs C5 ESP:

- Only the adjustment dial and accuracy are different. The C5 ESP has a finer thread pitch which allows for more granular, micro adjustments.

- The external grinder body, materials used and burr sets are the same.

- Brewing Method: C5 is suited for coarse grinds (e.g. french press, pourover) | C5 ESP can do both coarse & fine grinds (e.g. espresso, mokapot, pourover).

- Micron per Click: C5 - 31 micron | C5 ESP - 15 micron

Common features of all C5 models:

- Body: 159 x 53mm

- Capacity: Holds up to 25 - 30g of beans

- Material: Stainless steel & aluminium

- Burr Set: Timemore S2C-042-III (42mm Seven-Blade Multipurpose Burr)

- Anti-slip Silicone Pad: Located on the base of the grinder, the silicone pad prevents the grinder from slipping on your countertop.
