A fourth-generation blacksmith from Miki City in Hyogo Prefecture, Shigeki Tanaka carries forward a proud legacy of craftsmanship that began in the Meiji era. Trained at the renowned Takefu Knife Village in Fukui, Tanaka-san returned to Miki to establish his own forge - where traditional skill meets modern innovation. His knives are celebrated worldwide for his precision, artistry, and performance-driven designs. Today, he is considered one of Japan’s most talented young artisans, with knives that are sought after for their beauty, performance, and unmistakable character.
The Harukaze series features a razor-sharp R2/SG2 powdered steel core hardened to HRC 63. It’s clad in 33 layers of Damascus steel, producing a rippling pattern. With multiple cycles of acid etching and polishing, the Harukaze's damascus pattern creates a 3-dimensional effect that you can feel when running your fingers across the blade.
