Yes, these are microwave safe stainless steel containers. They are also oven, freezer and dishwasher safe.

In search of the ultimate food storage container, we wanted something durable, versatile and most importantly microwave and oven safe. This allows you to easily heat food up without having to transfer into another container.

At first, we shortlisted glass as the material that can do it all. However, having used a few samples, they ran into a huge issue: weight and fragilty. The containers were so heavy that they could easily slip out of our wet hands during use. This risked breaking the containers, but more importantly damaging our countertops and flooring which would be expensive to repair. We needed a better container material.

One day, we came across a stainless steel baking tray that was touted to be microwave safe. We delved into the research and found that indeed, if stainess steel was molded and shaped in a specific way, it could be microwave safe. After numerous months of testing, we found the perfect containers that overcame the limitation of heavy and fragile glass containers, while still retaining all of their benefits.

Common Questions:

What precautions do I have to take when using this product?

  1. Keep containers at least 1cm away from the walls and door of the microwave when heating.
  2. Do not heat more than one container in the microwave at a time.
  3. Do not microwave with anything else that is not microwave safe (e.g. metal forks, spoons and aluminium foil).

Are metals safe in the microwave?

It is commonly thought that metals are unsafe in the microwave as they are hazardous. This is true when the metal is thin, pointy or crumpled (like a fork, or aluminium foil), which could result in electrical arcing - a build up of voltage that discharges as sparks. However, NOT ALL metals are unsafe in the microwave.

In fact, if you took a closer look inside your microwave, you would notice that its walls are made of metal too! In general, a single smooth and thick metal (like our microwavable stainless steel container) placed in the microwave will not result in sparks. The new microwave-safe stainless steel containers have been developed by altering the design of the containers. They consist of thick enough walls and corners that have been rounded off, which eliminates electrical arcing and is safe to be microwaved.
