One year in the making, after numerous samples, we finally have our own custom knife roll. We tried to make this roll as versatile as possible with knife slots designed for everything - from paring knives to cleavers to scissors to weighing scales.

Here are some features we want to mention:

First, the knife slots have a "Blade-In" design - this is something many of our customers wanted, so we delivered. The "Blade-In" slots cushion your knife blades and prevent them from clanging against each other as they are transported (as opposed to "Handle-In" slots).

Second, we included two zipper pockets to keep any loose items, be it spoons, thermometers or scissors. The equipped zippers are thick, chunky and plastic. We chose plastic to prevent scratches to your knives in case they ever came in contact. These are the same type of zippers used to hold duffle bags together, so they should have a long service life. We also placed these pockets closer to the opening of the roll, so you can access these pockets without fully unrolling.

Third, we added an extra large pocket in the last slot of the roll. Again, this is something our customers requested, usually to store a deba or any extra large and tall knife. With a saya, most knife rolls would not be able to fit a full sized 180mm Deba blade-in. However, our knife roll will comfortably accomodate this knife. In fact, you could even put a mandoline or cleaver in this knife slot. We call this the utility slot. If you don't have any large knives, you could even store two knives inside this slot.

Lastly, this knife roll is made from unwaxed and untreated cotton canvas. While it's thick, it's still somewhat breathable, allowing moisture to escape in case your knives aren't 100% dry. With that said, please still dry your knives thoroughly before placing them in the roll. Moisture breeds bacteria and also promotes rust - something we all want to avoid.

We tried to pack a lot into this knife roll while keeping its size fairly reasonable. When the knife roll is fully extended, it is only 65 x 47cm which is around the size of a large cutting board.

 

How to use:

Firstly, please use a blade guard or saya with each knife. Do not slot your knives in without any blade protection. At the very least, wrap your knives with some paper or cardboard before slotting them in.

Second, fill up your knife roll with items you want to carry. This will help you figure out how much adjustment is needed on the elastic cord, so the roll is properly tensioned and tight.

Third, shorten the elastic cord to your preferred length by tying a knot further down, such that when you pull the cord over the roll, it's not too loose or tight. You may also replace the cord entirely with string, rope or leather if you prefer. There are many ways you can tie down this roll, so feel free to make it uniquely yours!
