Morihei 森平 has a long standing history of manufacturing whetstones since 1933. The Karasu series is made from a proprietary blend of natural and synthetic stones and are known for their resemblance to sharpening on Japanese Natural Stones (JNATs). In particular the Karasu series stones are extremely hard making them ideal for polishing straight razors, single bevel knives and wide beveled woodworking tools to a high mirror finish.

This Whetstone is:

  • Splash and Go - No soaking required.
  • Fast Cutting - Great for hard, high alloy steels.
  • Hard Wearing - This stone dishes extremely slowly
  • Medium Tactile Feedback - Due to its hardness and high grit, the stone may feel slippery in use (depending on steel)

Troubleshooting:

If your edge is sharp in some areas but not in others, check that you have deburred consistently throughout the edge. Also, make sure you have a consistent sharpening angle throughout the length of the blade.

You may have microchips on the edge if your edge cannot achieve sharpness at specific points on the edge. You may use a 400 grit stone or lower to remove these microchips before proceeding into sharpening and finishing.
