Morihei Hishiboshi Green 3000
Morihei Hishiboshi Green 3000
Morihei 森平 has a long standing history of manufacturing whetstones since 1933. The green #3000 grit stone by Morihei does have any special name or labels, it is simply named after its apparent colour with #3000 printed on the stone.
This stone is a medium fast cutter and generates a good amount of mud, great for finishing edges to a refined but toothy finish. This stone produces a decent contrast between the hagane and jigane, however its scratch patten leaves visible lines on the bevel (rather than a hazy kasumi look) so it is not recommend for final finishing. With that said it can serve as a pre-polishing stone for wide bevel sharpening (primary bevel) or on single bevels.
This is a great stone for those who sharpen often (more than twice a week) and can serve as a great one step finishing stone.
This Whetstone is:
- Splash and Go - No soaking required, but benefits from a short 2 minute soak
- Medium Fast Cutting - Great for carbon steels, non-PM stainless steel
- Medium Wearing - This stone dishes slowly over time
- Strong Tactile Feedback
Troubleshooting:
If your edge is sharp in some areas but not in others, check that you have deburred consistently throughout the edge. Also, make sure you have a consistent sharpening angle throughout the length of the blade.
You may have microchips on the edge if your edge cannot achieve sharpness at specific points on the edge. You may use a 400 grit stone or lower to remove these microchips.
