Based in Echizen, Masutani Hamono is a small but highly respected knifemaker. Kunio Masutani, a fourth-generation blacksmith, has over 30 years of experience crafting high-quality knives with a focus on affordability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. Known for his exceptional sharpening skills, Masutani-san ensures every knife that leaves his workshop is razor-sharp and ready for use.
In online discussions regarding the "Best Value for Money Knives", Masutani's work often gets mentioned. Holding them in hand, we can see why. The knives are well balanced, feel great in hand and the grind is thin yet not too thin they feel fragile. The only real downside is that Masutani-san only seems to make knives 180mm and below, so the selection is quite limited. However, if you're in a market for smaller knives, the value is hard to beat.
