Kobayashi Shoji Amakusa White Natural Stone (1000-1500)

From the mines of Kyushu, Japan, the Amakusa stones have been used as a general purpose whetstone since the Sengoku period in the 15th century.

This Amakusa stone is the White version with an equivalent grit rating of around 1000 to 1500. It is suitable as a Nakato (中砥石 Medium Stone) which will leave a toothy cutting edge. If you're looking to polish your blades, the White Amakusa results in a fairly high contrast between the Jigane and Hagane.

Note: As these are natural stones mined from a quarry, it is normal for the stones to have varying colours, stripes, texture, chips on the edges or impurities within the stone.
