KINGrinder K6 Coffee Grinder
KINGrinder K6 Coffee Grinder
KINGrinder was founded by an ex-1Zpresso engineer and this can clearly be seen in their burr designs. For grinders at each and every price point, their specs are maxed out to give you the most even and high quality extraction. In our opinion, they provide an unbeatable value.
However, there is a catch - they don't have the best tactile experience.
We have been a long-time retailer for the popular brand Timemore and honestly they have spoiled us with their build quality, crisp CNC details and overall fit and finish. KINGrinder doesn't have that polish, their hand grinders feel utilitarian (the P2 is made of plastic), their adjustment knobs don't click in as satisfying of a way.
However, KINGrinders are still highly recommended today because they excel in one extremely important thing - grind quality. Their grinders not only have tighter particle distributions than any grinder at the same price point, but they have better grind size adjustments as well. Because of this, all their grinders, even the most entry level models, excel at both espresso, filter coffee and everything in between.
The K6 is KINGrinder's flagship all-rounder with a precise external grind size adjustment collar. It can do espresso and filter coffee equally well, providing both rounded body with clear and vibrant notes. The K6 has an almost identical burr geometry to the flagship K-Ultra grinders from 1Zpresso and produces a relatively similar flavour profile for both espresso and filter coffee. It truly punches above its price class by offering similar performance to grinders three times in price.
If you are someone who explores a wide range of brewing methods, this grinder will cover all your bases and probably more. Plus, the external collar for adjusting grind size really makes it incredibly easy and convenient to change between brewing methods.
The K6 in many ways is quite similar to the Chestnut S3 by Timemore. They both have external grind adjustments, they both produce clean and sweet filter coffees. To be honest, we really like both. Here are some differences that may sway you to one or the other:
- S3 has a folding handle, K6 does not.
- S3 has a more intuitive one revolution grind adjustment, K6 requires multiple revolutions and adding 60 x number of rounds turned.
- S3 may not grind fine enough for light roast espresso, K6 can grind extremely fine even down to turkish coffee settings.
- S3 while it has good clarity, leans more blended and sweet, K6 has superb clarity and leans more vibrant.
- S3 is heavy at 800g, K6 is comparatively lighter at 620g
- S3 has a lightly textured body, K6 has a grippy rubberised body.
Key features:
- 7 sided heptagonal 48mm burr, 16 micron per click, 60 clicks per revolution.
- Heptagonal burrs slow down the feed rate which provides more flavour separation and clarity.
- Aluminium body, with non-slip silicone grip.
- External grind size adjustment collar.
- Suitable for the full range of grind sizes, for espresso to pour overs.
Note: the K-series grinders are compatible with electric drills! You'll need one with 15-25Nm torque, and a 6.35mm (1/4 inch) Hex Shank.
