From our conversation with IKAPE, the proper way to pronounce their brand name is "eye" - "car" - "peh". But many within the company simply say "eye" - "kay".

The KAPO K2 initially caught our eye as it seemed extremely capable for a portable espresso machine. It has a portafilter with an unpressurised, bottomless basket (51mm or 58mm). The app control allows you to set and control many variables: water temperature, pre-infusion time, soak time, flow rate and extraction time - something even many semi-automatic espresso machines cannot do. 

Honestly, it sounded too good to be true, especially since it's priced below most "non-portable" espresso makers. 

Well, after receiving our sample for the KAPO K2, we found that it was the real deal, delivering on the claims the company made. Its capabilities rival and even exceed many semi-automatic espresso machines. Having tested this ourselves, we can truly say the experience was exceptional and seamless. We tested the machine with anything from light nordic roasts to traditional dark roasts and changing the water temperature and extraction times were extremely easy.

The KAPO K2 weighs less than 900g and is about the size of a thermos - making it ideal for travel or camping. However, since the KAPO K2 is so capable, we think it can make a great machine for home or office use, especially since it outperforms many entry level machines out there. For the Semiblack Team, we are mainly pour over drinkers, but the KAPO K2 makes a great addition to our existing set-up and allows us more options for milk based drinks.

Its 13,500mAh battery heats 60ml of cold water to 93°C in under 3 minutes, delivering up to 8 shots per charge from cold water or over 50 shots when no heating is required. For mixed use during our testing, we filled the water tank with 70ml water at 80°C. Water was heated to between 86°C and 92°C depending on our beans and the charge ran out in about 15 shots. The number of shots per charge seems to be heavily determined by how much water heating is required so your mileage may vary depending on how you use the machine.

Compatible with all standard 51 or 58mm (depending on the model) espresso accessories including tampers, distributors and dosing funnels, the KAPO K2 offers limitless versatility. Its replaceable bottomless basket lets you experiment with different baskets making this espresso maker extremely capable and customisable.
